Design Confidential: Ep. 5

Interior Design Trends 2025: More Personality, Less Boring
If last year was all about “quiet luxury,” 2025 is here to turn up the volume! This year, interior design is bolder, richer and way more fun. Think statement colors, sculptural shapes and spaces that feel more like art than just places to sit. But comfort and sustainability are still in the mix, proving that beauty and practicality can coexist.
Beyond browsing Maison & Objet and Déco Off in Paris, gallery shows and design fairs, a lot of the insights I’ve gathered about 2025’s design trends come from AD’s directory and industry conversations, all of which I frequently explore. These sources provide a fascinating look at how designers are pushing boundaries, blending craftsmanship with innovation and making interiors more expressive than ever. At the end of this blog post, you’ll find a selection of the many photos I’ve taken myself, capturing moments that illustrate some of the trends mentioned.
The trends this year are about whimsy and storytelling. Furniture is getting sculptural, lighting is looking like floating art and unexpected details are injecting personality back into interiors. Sustainability is also stepping more into the spotlight, with reclaimed materials and vintage treasures. And yes, maximalism is still going strong making interiors feel curated and full of life.
So, if you’re ready to ditch the ordinary and bring more character into your home, let these 2025 design trends inspire you:
1. Nature-Inspired Materials & Earthy Tones: Organic materials continue to take center stage, creating spaces that feel warmer, richer and more connected to nature. Expect to see warm woods, clay finishes, textured plaster, natural stone and rich leather accents grounding interiors in warmth and authenticity. More than ever, the emphasis is on tactile surfaces, materials that you don’t just see but feel, bringing depth and character into a space.
2. Rich, Moody Colors Take Over: Neutrals? Still around, but they’re no longer the main event. This year, interiors are embracing deep greens, rich ochres, velvety blues, terracotta and mocha tones to create cozy, layered spaces. Softer pastels are making a subtle comeback too, offering a balance between bold sophistication and calming retreat-like spaces. Whether through painted walls, upholstery or vibrant accessories, color is officially back!
3. Soft Curves, Sculptural Silhouettes & Textured Finishes: Interiors are still taking a more organic, unforced approach to shapes and silhouettes. Curved furniture, arched
doorways and sculptural statement pieces are replacing rigid, boxy designs, making spaces feel relaxed, dynamic, and effortlessly cool. Expect to see more spherical furniture, wavy mirrors and fluid lighting designs bringing a sense of movement into interiors. But shape alone isn’t enough, texture is getting its moment too. Woven details, layered fabrics, and sensorial surfaces like ribbed wood, fluted glass and sculpted wall finishes are adding dimension. Think of interiors that beg to be touched, creating spaces that feel as good as they look.
4. Sustainability Meets Storytelling: Sustainability is no longer an afterthought, it’s an expectation. High-quality, artisanal furniture and decor that tell a story are replacing mass-produced, short-lived pieces. Vintage and antique furniture is surging in popularity, not just for its eco-friendly appeal but also for its ability to add depth and history to a space. Reclaimed materials, locally crafted goods and one-of-a-kind statement pieces are making homes feel curated and collected over time, rather than looking like a generic
showroom.
5. Homes That Prioritize Wellness: Your home should be your sanctuary, and in 2025 interiors are doubling down on designing for well-being. From spa-like bathrooms with sensory lighting and natural stone finishes to cozy, sun-drenched reading nooks, every space is being designed with relaxation in mind. Biophilic design is still going strong, expect more indoor gardens and soft lighting that promote wellness and mindfulness.
6. Statement Walls Get a Makeover: Basic painted walls? Not enough anymore. Walls are becoming focal points, whether through textured plaster, limewash, Venetian finishes, bold wallpaper or intricate paneling. These elements add character, movement and depth to a space, making it feel custom and high-end without overwhelming the room.
7. Playfulness & Surrealism: Who says interiors have to be serious? This year, expect to see unexpected quirky details that add personality and an element of surprise. Oversized sculptural accessories, asymmetrical furniture and whimsical decor are bringing a sense of fun and creativity into interiors. The trick is balancing these bold, surrealist-inspired accents with timeless design elements so your space feels playful but
still elevated.
8. Customization & Personalization: People want homes that feel personal and unique rather than mass-produced. Small-batch designs and custom pieces are becoming more popular, as homeowners look for ways to put their own stamp on their spaces. Think hand-painted murals, custom upholstery and unexpected color combinations that make a home feel truly one-of-a-kind.
The best thing about 2025’s interior design trends is that they’re all about self expression. Whether you love striking personality-packed spaces or prefer a more nature-inspired retreat, this year is about designing a home that truly reflects you. It’s time to ditch the ordinary, embrace the unexpected and create interiors as unique as the people who live in them. And remember, not all interiors are created equal, and not every trend works for everyone. As the French say, "Les goûts et les couleurs ne se discutent pas," which translates to "Taste and colors are not up for debate." So true! The key is to choose what works for you, whether that means embracing one trend, all of them or none at all!
So, which one speaks to you the most? Let’s start the conversation and explore what works best for your space!
